Is anyone REALLY surprised to see our sweet little Hannah Montana’s butt all over the news? Honestly, when I saw her “twerking” (which is a really gross sounding word by the way) on my morning news today, I just changed the channel. I WAS surprised to see that she was also on the next two channels that I turned to. Shows had taglines that read, “Miley’s Performance: Offensive or Awesome?” and “Has Miley Gone Too Far?” I even heard that someone at MTV would probably lose their job for allowing her performance to be televised.
Really? Has anyone here actually watched MTV? As I have randomly channel surfed, I’ve seen things that make Miley’s performance look mild. Has anyone here followed Miley’s journey into “womanhood” over the past few years? I think her behavior on the VMA Music Awards is pretty in line with how she has been portraying herself in general day to day life. Not that I am condoning any of it - I’m just not as shocked as the rest of the world seems to be right now. And honestly, no matter how much we discuss the ins and outs of her bootie shaking and finger licking, it doesn’t change anything. If anything it just makes us MORE obsessed with the behavior that we are condemning.
Today that is also kind of how I am feeling about diet and exercise. I realize that there is a time and a place to discuss all things fitness (my whole blog is founded on that premise for Pete’s sake) but sometimes I think we as a society have just talked ourselves out. Are we really surprised when put on a few pounds after eating out three times a week? Is anyone really shocked to find out that going to the gym isn’t always fun?
We have become so obsessed with dieting that almost every newspaper, magazine, or news show on television has some sort of article or segment about it. Our minds are so hyper focused on food that we have actually become MORE obsessed with it rather than less.
I think today I am just going to eat when I am hungry, be sensible, and get some exercise. I’m going to try to not overanalyze every little detail and make it harder than what it really is.
And I’m gonna pray for Miley. That girl needs her some Jesus.
